A little guidance
Choose a domain that works for you
Your domain is often one of the first things people see. A few simple choices can make it easier for customers to recognise and remember your business online.

Match your domain to your business
Choose a domain name that makes sense alongside your business name and what customers expect to find.

Keep it simple
A short, easy-to-read domain is generally easier to remember, type and share.

Think local when it matters
A .co.za domain can clearly communicate a South African business identity while your website can still serve customers elsewhere.

Protect your brand
Where appropriate, registering related domain variations can help keep your brand identity consistent across the web.

Domain questions, answered
A few common questions about registering, managing and using a domain with PalmHost.
Who owns the domain after I register it?
The domain is registered using the details supplied during registration. Keep your registrant and contact information accurate and up to date, as these details are associated with the domain registration.
How long is a domain registered for?
The registration period depends on the domain extension and the term selected during registration. Your client area will show the relevant registration and renewal information for your domain.
What happens when my domain needs to be renewed?
Domains need to be renewed before their registration period expires if you want to keep them. You can manage your domain renewal through your PalmHost client area.
Do I need hosting to register a domain?
No. A domain and web hosting are separate services. You can register a domain without hosting it with PalmHost, although hosting is needed if you want to use the domain for a website hosted with us.
What happens to my domain if I change hosting providers?
Changing your hosting provider does not automatically change ownership of your domain. You can update the domain’s nameservers or DNS records to point it towards the new hosting service.
How long does DNS take to update?
DNS changes can take some time to appear across different networks and devices. The timing depends on the records involved, their previous TTL values and local DNS caching, so changes are not always visible everywhere immediately.
What if the domain I want is unavailable?
If a domain is already registered, you cannot register that exact domain through the normal registration process. You can try another name or choose a different available extension.
Ready to find your domain?
Your domain is the starting point for your online presence. Search for an available name and take the next step towards getting your business online.
